Songs of the Week 3/12

New Tune: “Surfer Rosa”- The Obsessives   Throwback Track: “Spiderhead” – Cage The Elephant

Songs of the Week 3/5

Since I’ve been really digging Tipling Rock lately, I figured I’d feature a song of theirs this week. Then came the idea to make a little theme out of it, with some inspiration from last week’s songs. Ironically, (or maybe completely unironically) these are excellent “strutting around campus” songs. New Tune: “Campus Fashion” – Tipling Rock This…

Hippo Campus shares a piece of heaven with Landmark

It’s been one whole week since Hippo Campus released their debut album, Landmark. The album is named after a building at their high school in Minnesota and the cover features their rehearsal space which represents a ‘landmark‘ of its own. The band released singles “Boyish,” “Monsoon,” and “Way It Goes” preceding the album’s release and…

Colony House Rocks The Foundry

Colony House brought their Tennessee charm as well as a spectacular light show to the Foundry at The Fillmore Wednesday, March 1st. The band is comprised of Scott Mills (guitar), Parke Cottrell (bass), and brothers Caleb (vocals/guitar) and Will Chapman (drums). Seattle, Washington, natives Deep Sea Diver opened the show. This band features a female lead…

Songs of the Week 2/26

This is an important one: I’ve come across a small number of songs that have the honor of sharing a name with me. Here are two of the best. New Tune: “Natalie” – HUNNY I recently discovered HUNNY and really hit the jackpot. HUNNY falls into that fast-and-lose, angsty-indie pop category. What more could you…

Songs of the Week 2/19

Spring is just within reach, people! As everyone is starting to come out of hibernation, things are picking up again: new singles, albums, and tours. My calendar is already packed with concerts and album release dates. New Tune: “I Don’t Wanna Dance” – COIN This song shows a new side of COIN. It drifts towards the…

Hidden Gems

The bad news is that bands sometimes have tracks they like to keep secret. Whether they’re hidden bonus tracks, EPs that never made it to iTunes or Spotify, singles that never got the hype they deserved, whatever it may be, these songs get tossed aside. The good news is I’ve started a running list of songs I’ve…

Songs of the Week 2/12

This week’s songs are on the grittier side. If you’re ever in need of music you can brood to, but have a good time doing it, I’m your gal. New Tune: “Ego” – Milky Chance Milky Chance has already released two singles in 2017, both of which are a dark shade of fun and dancey. Their…

Beach Weather in February(?)

I apologize for the misleading article title, although yesterday was somehow 65 degrees while today was a snow day, but I’ve been seeking relief from the cold weather by listening to some moody tracks by Beach Weather. They have an angsty vibe akin to The Neighbourhood and Sir Sly (and if there’s one thing I love besides an…

Songs of the Week 2/5

This weeks songs are featured on my playlist “””love”””. This playlist is the perfect combination of love songs and anti-love songs. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, however you’ll be celebrating it. Listen to “””love””” here: New Tune: “Dear To Me” – Electric Guest Throwback Track: “A Walk In The Park” – The New Electric Sound…

Almeda: R&B in DC

R&B is alive and well in Georgetown University’s Almeda. Formed in 2013, the band is made up of Danny O’Brien (piano and guitar), Dan Sheehan (drums), Nick Quirk (bass), and Adaeze (Dez) Eze (vocals). They’ve been tearing it up all over DC, playing venues like Bossa Bistro and Lounge in Adam’s Morgan. Their SoundCloud features…

Songs of the Week 1/29

The Walters released this harsh song disguised by upbeat and sunny instrumentals a few weeks ago. I love the combination of bright music beneath blunt lyrics. New Tune:   Colony House released a new album earlier this month, so here’s one of my favorite throwbacks by them. Throwback Track:   Follow me on Spotify here.
